BSN Round 29: Gigantes are upset by Grises

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Gigantes (13-10) and sixth ranked Grises (8-16) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Gigantes were defeated by Grises in a tough game in Carolina 82-90. Grises shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman James Ennis (201-1990, college: LBSU) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Panamanian-American center Akil Mitchell (206-1992, college: Virginia) chipped in 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. International center George Conditt IV (208-2000, college: Iowa St.) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Grises maintains sixth place with 8-16 record, which they share with Ponce. Gigantes at the other side keep the third position with ten games lost. Grises is looking forward to face league's leader Vaqueros in Bayamon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gigantes will play on the road against Cariduros in Fajardo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Atleticos (15-9) against sixth ranked Osos (9-17) on Saturday night. Visiting Atleticos were defeated by Osos in a tough game in Manati 81-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Atleticos. American guard Sheldon Mac (196-1992, college: Miami, FL, agency: Slash Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 7 rebounds. Christopher Ortiz contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. American forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (201-1995, college: Arizona) answered with 26 points and 7 rebounds for Atleticos. Atleticos' coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Osos moved-up to fifth place. Atleticos at the other side keep the second position with nine games lost. Osos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Atleticos will play on the road against Indios in Mayaguez and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quebradillas. First ranked Piratas faced 3rd placed Capitanes. Host Piratas (17-6) defeated guests from Arecibo (13-11) 82-76. Hassan Whiteside stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Paris Bass responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Piratas maintains first place with 17-6 record. Loser Capitanes keep the third position with 11 games lost. Piratas will meet at home league's second-placed Cangrejeros in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Capitanes will play against Mets and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 29 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Guaynabo were defeated by Santurce in a road game 102-90. Bayamon beat Fajardo at home 99-88. Ponce lost to Mayaguez on the opponent's court 82-88.

American center Hassan Whiteside (213-1989, college: Marshall) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and international forward Phillip Wheeler (204-2002) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. American power forward Paris Bass (207-1995, college: Detroit) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Dominican Victor Liz (190-1986) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Piratas maintains first place with 17-6 record. Loser Capitanes keep the third position with 11 games lost. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 4th placed Mets' (12-12) road loss to third ranked Cangrejeros (14-10) 90-102 on Friday. Cangrejeros looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American point guard David Stockton (180-1991, college: Gonzaga) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 13 assists for the winners and the former international forward Angel Matias (194-1992, college: Georgia South) chipped in 29 points and 5 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Brazilian-American center Tim Soares (211-1997, college: Master's) responded with 23 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Jaysean Paige (188-1994, college: WVU) scored 24 points. Four Mets players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cangrejeros have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Loser Mets keep the fourth position with 12 games lost. Cangrejeros will meet league's leader Piratas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mets will play against Capitanes in Arecibo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Bayamon where first ranked Vaqueros (16-8) defeated 5th ranked Cariduros (10-16) 99-88 on Saturday. Vaqueros looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The former international center Ismael Romero (205-1991) stepped up and scored 22 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and American forward Braxton Key (203-1997, college: Virginia) chipped in 12 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Vaqueros players scored in double figures. American center Thomas Robinson (208-1991, college: Kansas) responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import guard Archie Goodwin (196-1994, college: Kentucky) scored 23 points. Cariduros' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Defending champion maintains first place with 16-8 record. Loser Cariduros keep the fifth position with 16 games lost. Vaqueros will meet Grises (#6) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cariduros will play against Gigantes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather expected game in Mayaguez where 6th ranked Leones (8-16) were defeated by fourth ranked Indios (11-15) 88-82 on Saturday. Indios made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward DJ Hogg (203-1996, college: Texas A&M) stepped up and scored 29 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Chaundee Brown Jr (196-1998, college: Michigan) chipped in 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Indios players scored in double figures. The former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) responded with 18 points and 8 assists and American forward Jamil Wilson (201-1990, college: Marquette) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Indios maintains fourth place with 11-15 record. Loser Leones keep the sixth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Humacao. Indios will meet at home league's second-placed Atleticos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Leones will have a break next round.
